Dr Noshina Saleem Becomes First Woman to Lead Punjab University’s Media Faculty

According to a notification issued by Punjab’s Higher Education Department on Tuesday, Dr. Saleem has been appointed Dean for three years or until her superannuation, whichever comes earlier.
The appointment was made by the Governor/Chancellor of Punjab under the University of the Punjab Act, 1973. The notification states that Dr. Saleem was selected on merit, describing her as the “highest in merit.”
Dr. Saleem is a faculty member of the Department of Communication & Media Research. In her new position, she will be responsible for the academic and administrative affairs of the Faculty of Information & Media Studies, which brings together disciplines including journalism, mass communication, digital media and media research.
Her appointment gives the faculty its first woman to occupy the Dean’s office. It also places her in a senior leadership position at an institution that has played a major role in the development of journalism and media education in Pakistan.
Faculty members and students have welcomed the appointment and congratulated Dr. Saleem. They expressed hope that her tenure will contribute to stronger research, curriculum development and closer engagement between the university and the media industry.
The appointment notification, signed by Section Officer Shafaqat Ali, has been circulated to the offices of the Governor and Chief Minister of Punjab, the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of Punjab University, and other relevant authorities.
Dr. Saleem is a senior academic and researcher in communication and media studies, with her work spanning teaching and research at Punjab University.
The Faculty of Information & Media Studies is one of the country’s established institutions for media education, producing generations of journalists, communication professionals and researchers.
With Dr. Saleem taking charge, the faculty now begins a new leadership chapter under its first woman Dean.
